1. Biyan Wanaatmadja
He's one of Indonesia's most prominent designer. What I love about him is how his work looked very sophisticated and reflected high quality of tailoring. He likes to put together the color black with pastel colors, which makes it balanced. By doing so, his remarkable career in fashion has put Indonesia on the international map of high fashion. He has even been dubbed the Dries Van Noten of Asia.
Some of the pictures are from BIYAN Annual Show in 2010 "As Time Goes By". Looking at the details of the lavish embellishments and intricate embroidery gives me chill. Believe it or not. It's just so...beautiful.
His work has even been worn by Kelly Rutherford, as Lily van der Woodsen in my all-time favorite TV show Gossip Girl. Below is Kelly wearing one of Biyan's majestic work. Knowing this make me even more proud of being Indonesian.
2. Tex Saverio
He is the Indonesian Alexander McQueen! For me, he is the reason why the word 'stupendous' was invented. He is phenomenal and his works are always mind-blowing. At only 26 years young, Saverio is already stirring up a buzz. He was as well a fashion student like myself and that he liked to challenge himself by putting his designs forward for international competition, which paid off. And that somehow inspires me to feel challenged.
Some of you might be confused why did I put Lady Gaga's picture in Harper Bazaar US above. And yes, you're absolutely correct, Tex Saverio is the talent behind that breathtaking black gown. Love how it presented the gold themed collection with magnificent detailing. I still can't wake up from the fact that Lady Gaga wore one of my favorite Indonesian designer. This just makes me even more and more proud of being Indonesian. #indonesianpride.
Above are some photos from his collection La Glacon, which is my all time favorite collection of his. It is inspired in the contradictory character of ice. All about a woman that may look fragile on the outside but what is inside is strong and tough. A fighter.
He once stated that fashion is art and designing is all about the soul; it's not about the cut, color, or style, but soul. He wants every single creation of his to have a soul. And that frankly makes the whole difference.
That's it that I want to say about me being proud from where I come from. I hope everybody does the same; encouraging your culture to the maximum point of the highest level.
